Coco Mattress
New born babies have a tendency to be very sensitive to temperature which is why its critical to have as breathable a sleeping environment as possible. We always recommend our Coco Mat mattress for newborns as it provides the best ventilation.
Organic bed pack
For newborns we recommend one of our 100% organic flannelette crib sheets to go over the mattress as an under sheet. Then on top of this we suggest an organic cotton sheet this will give the mattress adequate protection.
Cotton waffle blanket
The most popular blanket which can be used for swaddling as well as using in the pram, carry cot or crib is the Cotton Cellular Blanket.

A slightly warmer blanket ideal for use in a crib and later a cot is the Cotton Waffle Blanket. For use with a sheet in a crib we also recommend one of our machine washable Lambswool Blankets.

Mattress
The first rule for any newborn is you will need a new mattress for it sleep on. This way you can ensure that no bacteria is handed on from previous babies. New born babies have a tendency to be very sensitive to temperature which is why its critical to have as breathable a sleeping environment as possible. We always recommend our Coco Mat mattress for newborns as it provides the best ventilation.
All cribs, cradles and Moses baskets come in every shape and size, there is in fact no standard size. This is not a problem as we hand make each mattress to order. Just bear in mind that because of this there is a lead time of up to 3 weeks. Click here to find out more.
Bedding
This is probably the question we get asked most by our first time mums! For newborns we recommend one of our 100% organic flannelette crib sheets to go over the mattress as an under sheet. Then on top of this we suggest an organic cotton sheet this will give the mattress adequate protection.
On top of the baby we recommend another organic cotton sheet with one of our unbleached cotton cellular blankets. By using breathable natural fibres like cotton, babies are able to regulate their temperature more easily whilst they sleep, without getting too hot or too cold. By doing this you can easily remove layers depending on the temperature of the room.
Waterproof Mattress Protectors is another thing we are often asked about! Waterproof Protectors are generally not used until potty training time. If you do want the extra security we have a crib size (90cm x 50cm) Waterproof Organic Mattress Protector that will work for most sizes.
Furniture
Most people decide to use a moses basket, crib, cradle or bassinet for the first 0-3 months because it creates a more cozy sleeping environment, makes the baby feel more secure and you can have the baby next to you when you sleep. We have picked a range of crib and moses baskets that are beautifully made and are bigger and sturdier than most others. The other piece of nursery furniture which is useful to get for your newborn is a changing unit. These offer storage space for nappy changing equipment clothing and bedding and a useful place to change your baby. Click here to see our range of changing units
Sleeping Bag
Sleeping Bags are a popular item amongst our customers. However some babies love them and some do not! The advantages of a sleeping bag is that you don’t have to worry about your baby kicking off blankets at night and getting cold. The disadvantage is that some babies find them too constricting. It’s really a cases of trial and error!
